Should I believe this?

A guy from work was telling me that putting an aftermarket air filter on these 6.0's or any truck was not the best idea because they can let dust threw and into the motor inturn blowing the motor if dirt/dust gets through the filter. Now I am worried,I've got an 04 6.0 and it has an aem cold air intake on it and I'm wondering if It can hurt my truck rather than help it.So Do you guys know if there is any truth to this or am I just getting excited over nothing?Any input would be great.

From what ive read and understand, stock intake is the best way to go. The stock donaldson filter flow more then enough for a mildly modified truck. And yes, aftermarket filters may flow alittle better, but they can let some dust pass through. There has been a few threads on here lately where dealers told customers to put the stock intake back on due to the fact the dirt is starting to chip away at the compressor wheel.

nico963,

Follow this link to a previous thread and read. Click on the link to the article in post #6.

Basically unless your just dying to throw money away, the stock Donaldson filter is the best system going. Unless you have extreme mods (more than just a chip and tuner) you will not see any performance gains.

The only way to increase air flow is to decrease filtration. This is a basic fact of physics, no matter what the slick advertising by the aftermarket air filter manufactures say.

By replacing the factory air intake with and aftermarket system you risk premature engine wear and failure do to dusting.

Read the facts and then make your own decision, it is your money and truck.

Hope this helps

The Donaldson system on there's pretty good. There are two different problems to worry about with aftermarket intakes. Some of them require the use of oiled filters, and in some cases the oil gets into the Mass Air Flow sensor and damages it. Others, of course, do let bigger particles through. There are only two ways to get more air flow into the engine...decrease the amount of filtration done or increase the surface area of the existing media.

Nico - go back to your stock intake. The Donaldson will flow all the air you could ever need, and you won't sandblast your turbo.

Nico,
I'd recommend doing a "search" in this forum about the zoodad mod...
I use my stock intake, and i did the zoodad mod. That keeps the benefits of the stock (adequate) filter, and increases the airflow to it by opening up the area in front of the filter's "snorkel".
