Idle Problems

I have a 2003 f150 supercrew 4.6L V8. When you crank it, it will start and run for a second but will not idle and go dead.

If you hold the accel. down it runs ok, as soon as you take it off the rpms go down and she goes dead.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Sounds to me like tha IAC (Idle Air Control). Very easy to change, it's right up next to the throttle body. Not sure if the parts stores carry them, but I got mine from the dealer. I think it was about 115 bucks. I'm sure you can find it for less.

Joe, I changed out the valve and the problem is fixed.

I just want to say thanks very much for the info.

If you are ever in east central Alabama, you have a cold one waiting.

Thanks

By the way, the valve/gasket cost $63

Glad you're up and running. I basically had the same thing happen to me and was lucky enough to get some good advice from the folks on this site.
