Alright, just finished rebuilding my engine. Got everything hooked up today. Tried starting it, it turns over but won't run. While turning over it is very weak. I sprayed starting fluid in it, and it is getting a spark but won't start. I tried slowly turning the distributer while cranking but it doesn't work. I figured that as long as it's getting fuel (from the starter fluid) and spark then it should start with no problem. I'm stumped.
I don't know the history of this truck, it was already in bad shape when I bought it and I immediately tore it apart for the rebuild.
It's got a new battery
pistons/rings bored .030 over
cam
seals
vibration damper
Head redone
Rebuilt C6 tranny
First thing pop off the air cleaner and open the throttle you should see gas spray from the accel pump.
Yes?
Next since you confirmed spark, check timing with a timing light.
Yes?
Check compression with a compression tester.
Yes?
Check firing order.
If you get all the way through testing all these things in this order it will take less than a hour (as long as you don't stop after each thing).

Vince, how do I check the timing when it's not running?
