Test drove an 04 SCREW Lariat this weekend. Truck seemed pretty good until I accelerated SLOWLY from a dead stop. I got the impression that I could feel a clunk or a rough engagement of some kind a second or two after the truck began to move forward. The problem was not present in reverse or when four wheel drive was engaged. Is this accapable or a sign of a problem? Thanks
Could be the slip yoke binding, or the clutches in the limited slip differential, (if so equipped.) Both are known problems. If it is the slip yoke the dealer will probably just grease it up which is just a temp fix. To really fix it the drive-shaft needs to be replaced. For the diff, they would need to change the clutch pack. Bottom line is you have to decide whether or not you can live with the clunk.
There is a tsb for the driveshaft, but I think that it is for a vibration, not a noise. Personally sounds like the slip yoke to me. There is a bulletin for the slip yoke noise also. Mine did that and is starting to do it again. This is with a new driveshaft. Guess I'll have to complain again. It becomes more apparent to me when pulling a trailer, because I start off slower. I would think a limited slip issue would happen more when cornering as opposed to going straight, but mine has been good so far.
