Anyone ever install a 5.0 L w/a 5 speed toploader??? This was donated from a 86 Mustang and had a cable actuated clutch. Probably will need to fabricated linkage to operate clutch as I want to keep the original pedal assembly. Ideas???
If so, I have one in my '57. There are probably some slick aftermarket slave cylinders out there, but I used the one that came with the original 6 cy/ 3speed that I had taken out. I of course bought a new replacement cylinder. Fabricated brackets to mount it as a "pusher" from the rear, whereas the orignal Mustang cable was a "puller" from the front. I also fabricated a fairly strong return spring to be sure the Throwout bearing would pull away from the clutch. I have driven this thing about 11,000 miles since I put it together, and so far, so good.
Randy, what tower did you put on this?? Hurst?? Only found one that may work and I'll probably have to go to buckets instead of the bench. This is a front puller as yours and is a T-5, shift tower is all the way back and used the shorty. Thanks for the input, got a pic of the set up??
use the tailshaft and shifter from a S10. It moves the shifter forward a few inches. These are all made by Borg-Warner and some parts will interchange.
I found an old aftermarket shifter in the junk yard, cut it off (flat handle), drilled it to match, and bolted it on to the T5. Since I already have buckets, it is in a good location and about 4 inches longer than the Mustang shifter. Certainly wouldn't work with bench seat. I do like the location for driving, though.
I don't have pictures. One of these days I need to take time to purchase and learn to use a digital camera.
