Question desel help

currently starting a ground up old school diesel progect. After reading the manual, and looking around under the hood, I have found that this truck doesnt have the original engine. Does anyone know a site I can search by engine numbers to find out more info on the engine. It looks the same as the stock 7.3 at a glance, but there are NO emitions stuff on it, no pvc valves etc... all I really have to go by is a book on several different motors, and mine has different parts, so Im kinda curious where this motor came from, the previous owner knows nothing about the truck, other than he drove it for a few months and parked it for over 2 years. The engine needs some work, and after getting into it, the parts are not the same as in the book, and so Im wondering out how to identify this motor, any help would be greatly appreated.

what year of truck is it in? if its an early diesel IDI 7.3 (1989-1993), it wont have any of that emissions stuff on it, at least mine doesnt. other than that, check the sticker on the drivers side valve cover, that should have all the info there, hopefully it hasnt burned off or been soaked in oil.
