I have a 89 f250LD 4x4 with a 302 in it. I just bought a 89 f250 HD 2wd with a 351w in it. I know the engines can be swapped. The question I have is how similiar are the wiring harnesses from the 2 engines. Can I just plug the 351w engine wiring into the 302 harness currently in the truck? Please help. Also, I want to put the heavy rear end the LD4x4. Will it fit, and can I use the 2wd leafs in the 4x4? Thanks for your time. -Jake

The engine wiring harness should be very similar, if not identical. But it's completely self contained and can be removed with the engine. I'd recommend swapping in the 351 complete with it's harness and also use the 351 computer.
Points to consider in the axle swap are the C-C spacing of the leaf spring hangers, the width of the springs, and the drive shaft compatibility. A little study with a measuring tape should confirm the fit. You may need the taller 4x4 lift blocks on the rear axle as well. I think the drive shaft pinion mount may be the only potential problem area.
I put a 351 in my truck last year. Had 302 with the mustang compter, I used the 351 firing order on the dist, everything hooked up good. lot more power.
I would try to use the 302 harness that is already in your truck before trying to swap them out. They should be essentially identical, and are certainly close enough for the 351 computer to work with the 302 harness. If you do have problems, verify that the places that the engine harness mates with the chassis harness use the same pins for the same functions.
