Last time I filled up I noticed that my truck was running a little "off", it just didnt seem itself. I figure up here in CT that winter blend is now at the stations. So yestday after work I go to fill up for the week at the same place Ive been going since I bought the truck. When I look at the pump, I see that the only sticker on it now is the ULSD one, no more "warning" sticker about how ULSD is going to be coming. I walk to all the other diesel pumps and find there is no more low sulfur diesel at this station. I dont know what I should do, try and find a station that still has low sulfur diesel, use an additive, run bio if I can find it? Id hate to stop going to this place because I never get bad fuel, and my truck runs like a champ without any additives if I only fill up there.
Bio if you can get it, otherwise DK or something. There was a post here about people that had injector failures with the ulsd. I havent researched it yet, but someone had said that the gv was already aware about the lubricity issue. ulsd doesnt have the lubricity like it should for our trucks. Guess we will have to wait and see what happens.
I wish I knew of somewhere to get bio in CT. I guess ill pick up a bottle of DK when I fill up today. What about stanadyne additives, should I go with performance formula or lubricity formula?
Focus concern on lubricity. Thats whats missing. And keep your eyeballs on it for fuel leaks. I posted about a week ago about the glut of leaks we're seeing around here, most coming from the fuel / water separator lever thing (highly technical name reference for ya there)
Talked to a friend with a Cummins and asked hey, are you seeing any oddities with the ULSD, and he was like "with the what?" So I explained a little about the fuel change, and he got a little eureka look on his face and said he wondered if thats why it had been running so weird for the last month. I really don't know what to think of the stuff. It hasn't been around long enough here for anyone to get a real good feel for it but my initial perceptions keep sinking.

You have 4 biodiesel stations in your state. Click on the following link for all them in US... http://www.biodiesel.org/buyingbiodi...lfuelingsites/ ... I use about 1 & 1/2 gallons of bio to a tank full and alittle stanadyne.. seems to do the trick..

with ulsd you need to check for fuel leaks for at least 5 to 10 tanks. they are stating that the fuel is a little harsh on the systems, espeacially on the internalls. also keep an eye on filtering equipment due its cleaning abilities. lubricity is not a threat. fuel producers are adding fuel lubricity additives so you dont have to unless it is person preference. do a serch on it. ford has a ton of info on the ulsd
I've been trying to get some feed back on the question.
Since starting to use Diesel Kleen after an IP and injector(s) R&R on a 85 6.9, the exhaust has a different smell than just running straight diesel. Is this the normal thing when using an additive ? Any color change, or increase exhaust smoke?
Had my first taste of USLD in Ontario, pump had a sticker on it said less than .0015 sulpher, no DK available. Was less than 1/4 tank when filled up, didn,t take too many miles down the road, noticed it wasn,t running just up to par. by the time I got to a truck stop it was running rough and noisy. You could feel a vibration on the floor that felt like a broken belt in a tire. Usually get 300-325 km. by time gauge hits half tank, got 245 km. Put in some DK, filled back up with # 2 diesel, by the time I drove the 1/4 mile down the road to get back on the big highway, you could tell it was running better. mileage came right back up to what it usually is, and no more vibration. My truck and ULSD don't seem to be too compatable without a little DK.
i noticed a difference when my local filling station changed to ULSD last month. loss of performance and rough ideling. cleared right up when i put in 16oz of DK the last fill up. i guess with 100k on the clock on my 7.3 i'll stay with DK with every fill up.
