carb vs. fuel injection...
OK....
I wanna build a 300 for my 72 Hi-Boy instead of going the V8 route, but can't decide if FI would be worth the hassle over a 4-barrelled engine. No matter what the induction, the motor will be bored .030 over, get a different cam, maybe chevy rockers, mild port/polish on the head, increased compression, etc...
So any good advice or horror stories of wiring up an old truck for injection?
Or any opinions on the two in general?
And also, if I have the dual outlet FI exhaust manifolds, would there still be anything to gain with headers?
I had an 84 F-150 with a clifford intake, holley 390cfm 2 bbl, hedman headers, and 120,000 miles, and was pretty pleased with it, so I'm sure a freshly built motor with internal goodies would be awesome.
And I only plan on minor off-roading (probably wouldn't even need to lock the hubs in most places), and around town errand-ing.
Thanks!!
If your looking for a chance to learn about fuel injection go for it. It'll be a pita while your learning how it works and how to tweek it, but...once it's dialed in I think you'll like the results.
Don't get me wrong, carbarated systems are very strong. As you already know. And you'll have the benefit of familiarity when you have to troubleshoot something.
