This is probably a stupid question, but here goes. When turning the truck on, do the dash lights(the lights for the instrument panel) come on? I replaced the radio and I don't know whether the lights were on before that or not.
The dash lights will come on any time the headlights or parking lights are on. The brightness of the dash lights is controlled by twisting the headlight ****.
The dash lights should not come on just because the ignition is on . . . I think that's what you're getting at?
yes, that's what is happening, when the ignition is on the dash lights come on. hmmm. I had electrical. I guess I will need to get a wiring diagram and figure it out.
Thank you Mil1ion for the diagram, it helps and you were right I connected the two wires together to the switched power wire of the new radio. It doesn't have a seperate radio light, so took off the one wire but then the lights do not come on at all even if when I turn the headlight **** out. Not sure what I can do now. I might just put the wire back on so I at least have dash lights at night. Thank you again for the wiring diagram.
Negative, it is not the orignal Ford radio, it is the one from Blue Oval truck parts, it has the old school look, but it did not have the harness(no harnes at all, just wires) like the original radio, what I did was cut off the old harness and spliced it into the new radio(this is where I took both wires from the original radio side of the harness and connected them to the single switched power wire on the new radio. I am at work so I cannot get you a picture right now. Actually I just drew up in paint, I can't seem to paste it into this reply but I have uploaded it into my gallery it is the last picture. Thanks for the help.
You know just color me stupid, I used a flashlight to check the fuse the other day and it looked good, but just to double check it last night I pulled it and sure enough it was blown. I disconnected the wire that used to go to the radio light and jut left it off, so the only thing connected was the new radio and I replaced the fuse and no **** sherlock . I told you I friggin hate electrical. I now only have two small other problems to chase down, the reverse lights(that fuse is good ) and when I switch over to the auxilary gas tank the gauge doesn't work which I already know is because of the wiring, the only wring that is connected is from the main tank. I'll have to take off the spare tire and run down where the wire is from the aux gas tank's sending unit if there even is one. Thanks for the help.
Thanks, I traced the wire from the main tank and I isn't the original wire and it is the only wire connected, I just have to find the other wire from the aux tank. I'll check the NSS this weekend. Thanks,
