does anyone have the jet performance module for their 3.0L ranger and if so how is it working? can you notice a big difference? and is it comparable to the bama programmer?
I had a Jet module in my 4.0 Ranger and wasn't impressed, in fact, disappointed would be a better description. I've switched over to the Bama programming and am very happy now.
Jet is a generic tune, chips and piggy backs are old school tech with limited abilities. Jet also cost me a 500.00$ computer on my 99 f-150. It's this simple, bama is the best for a ranger and ford in general, anything else, and your settling for less than the best. Doug is a ford guy who deals specifically with ranger and explorer engines, but does other fords as well. Rangers are is bread and butter, he knows them inside out. Who would you trust, someone who makes chips for every vehicle made, or someone who does ranger programs and ford specifically ? If it's a money thing, you get what you pay for, your better off with no programs, than paying out good money for generic tunes, your better off waiting untill you get the money and buy the best. There's no short cuts to quality and performance, bama delivers both.
thanks for the advice guys, i was still leaning more towards the bama i just came across the jet performance the other day and wanted to know a little more about it.
Even if there wasn't bama, jet would still be at the bottom of the list, as superchips and hypertech are far superior to jet as they are programers and not chips. I don't know how else to say it, but chips suck along with jet for a ranger. Back in the day, jet made a pretty good chip for like a mustang gt and so forth, but for jeeps, rangers, and my f-150, they are about worthless, if not damaging. Todays programers make chips look antique and they sorta are. Bama is the best for ford since apten disapeared, and Doug was a part of that bunch I belive.
Guys I don't have a problem with you recommending the Bama programers, but since they are not a sponser of FTE (maybe they should be LOL) how about we suggest something like the Bama programer from http://www.jusnesmodified.com/
You know we want to promote the guys that help support this site so we can have a really good place to come for tech info and just have fun, Ken spends a lot of money to keep this site running so good with the amount of bandwidth it uses, I mean go look at the total post count for the site now over 4 million and counting.
We recomend parts that work or there the best for a particuler application, I can't help if thier a sponser or not, people ask questions to get answers, not to faten the wallet of a sponser. Are we that political now that every part we mention must be by a sponser, thats bs and really just ticed me off. We are to talk about ford trucks, not sponsers. I give Bob Jusnes alot of plugs, becuse of what he has and his prices, not because he's a sponser or not and also because I want to help out a fellow member. I'm not in anyones pocket, I call it and tell it like I see it, or have used it. I thought the whole idea was to help people with thier ford trucks, not butter up sponsers. I don't have anything against helping a sponser, but if a recomended part doen't fall under a sponser, then let the chips fall where they may, people want answers not promotions. Besides, I turned ranger14 on to jusnes modified, and if he buy's a bama, I'm sure it will be from Bob. I don't mean to get worked up, but I do live in a free country and don't like being told who I have to promote. I will see if Doug may want to become a sponser, it would be a shame if we couldn't recomend the best product for a ranger because he isn't a sponser.
Wendell I think you are miss understanding me. Now I have talked to Bob recently and found out that he is the only supplier for the Bama chips in truck applications. But at the time I wrote that I wasn't sure of that, so the issue is like this, lets use another part for an example you want to recommend say a MSD part for ignition and someone asks were to get it, well both summit and Jegs carry them ok you recommend summit, now jegs happens to sponser this site, do you think they are going to want to continue if they look on here and see people continuously recommending thier competition?
I don't even really know who does and who aern't sponsers, I answer most questions off the top of my head. I know that motorheaven is a sponser, but I couldn't even tell you for sure what all they sell. I know what Bob sells, cause I've studied his site and I like him. I don't mind helping a sponser, I just don't think about it when recomending something. are all those guy's sponsers in the left hand colum, like roush, k&n and so fourth. If so Bob Ayres isn't helping them when he's allways blasting k&n to people ha ha. I'm gonna study the list of sponsers alittle to be to be more mindful of this. I know we need sponsers, they make this work.
Jeg's a mighty good sponsor to have! They match prices from competitors, so remember that! Besides, my neighbor works there and I use his shop 'til I get the jing to build mine! I send my "order" to work with Steve and he gets me deals when they come along. Not a bad place to work, either.
I get summit catologs and thier right here in ohio, but I have heard great things about jegs. Maybe I'll get a jegs catolog, the bad thing about ordering in state, you have to pay state sales tax ha ha.

Jeg's is based out of Columbus, where you at? I live just east of the thriving metropolis of Zanesville.

I have a local guy helping me tune my 99 2.5L, he burned a flashable chip for me on his computer. We had to do three different ones to get it to stop pinging, and know seems to have better throttle response and power from 2k-4k is a tuner not available for mine? He also does the Diablo tuners on Mustangs. He said to drive it this week while he is at the trade shows in Vegas and to get back to him next week. Should I have him but a tuner in instead? CAn a chip or tuner alllow closed loop under all throttle positions? He did tell me he took some fuel out at wide open throttle because it was pretty fat. I am confused.
BamaChips can make a tuner for your truck, that wont need to be permanently installed, and it can be adapted to any mods or tweaks you want to do. They have been tuning rangers for years now, and have EARNED their reputation as the best ranger tuners. Will you feel a difference between the chip you have now and a bamachips custom tune? Thats not something I could guarantee without knowing your tuner pretty well.
