window squeaking
I have installed my power windows in my 53 but the windows squeak in the window channel when going up or down- I have done everything to make the window run as good as possible in the channel- is there anything that you can put in the window channel that will lube it to make the glass not squeak in the channel- thanks

Larry:
Do you know what is making the squeak sound? New channel? Maybe it's the mechanism. If you are confident the glass is making the noise from running in the channel, it may be too tight a fit. The power window unit I used said you can use graphite in the channel. I haven't done it because mine work like a dream.
Did you grease everything up before install? I just can't imagine the noise is coming from the glass running in the channel given the material used in the channel.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-Dec-02 AT 06:15 PM (EST)]I just had PW's put on my '59. When I went by to check them today, my installer said the channel on one side was a bit tight... so he had to open them out a bit. When I noticed that the windows were a bit "groggy" going up he said that, like new weatherstripping on the doors, they take a little while to "break in". Obviously, you don't want to ream them out so much to stop the squeaking that they then rattle!
I too can't imagine the "squeak" you're hearing is from the glass itself? Did you wipe down (and thus remove) the lubrication on the motor or window risers during the install? Or maybe they just didn't get lubed well to begin with. You might double check the lube on the motor, the gears, and the window risers. While you're at it, hit it with the graphite like Tim suggested!--- couldn't hurt!
