Anyone have any expreience removing the jump seats from their Ranger? I've got an 02 SuperCab 4x4 and I'd like to just get rid of the jump seats. They are fairly pointless, and I'd much rather have 6 or 8 inches of storage room than those seats. My handyman skills are a 0, but I was wondering if I can just pull some paneling down and undo a bolt or two.
Any tips/advice are appreciated. Suggestions to leave them in are not. Also, can I remove just 1 seat?
Well it's been awhile since I did this, I cannot remember the exact steps. If you have the same jump seats like I did in my 2002, it is pretty straight forward.
Check to see if any plastic trim\molding pieces need to be removed to expose bolts (I don't think there was).
Remove the bolts from the bottom of the jump seat (easy to reach)
Remove the bolts for the seat belt mechanism (harder to reach). I had to get an extension put together to reach down past the seat belt and unbolt
Once you do that, the seats should just come right out. Maybe 4 or 5 bolts total for each seat.
thanks for the info. based on your profile picture, i have a feeling you may have done yours for the same reason i want to do mine. i just got the truck last week and there's not much room back there for my 80lb black lab. i figured if i took the seats out, i could build a little plywood shelf to sit over the driveshaft hump and on top of where those seats mount to get another few inches. the way it is now is just a few inches short of being "comfortable". i may leave 1 seat in "just in case"
Yes and no. Also added a sound system, and built the dog bed platform on top of that. Subbox, area for amps and CD changer, then dogbed on top. She gets a nice ride and can look out of all the windows laying in the back. She also rests her muzzle on my shoulder while I'm driving.
You may want to look at taking both seats out, elevating the platform and that way you can store crap under the platform, and dog gets a nice ride out of the deal. Just an idea for ya.
