surge upon start-up

just wondering if anyone else has the same condition. Truck is an 06 with 900 miles. Upon start-up, the rpms will go to about 1200, and stay there for about 3-4 minutes, then it will drop to around 500-750(which is where I feel it should be). If I put it in gear(it's an auto.), while the RPMs are high, it will drop to the 500-750 range--but if I hit neutral within those first 4 minutes, they will shoot back up to around 1200. Anyone else have this and know the cause?
Thanks.

Sounds normal, actually.

More 3-valvers will be along in a little while to answer this...

It might need a flash (computer software) update...

Its Normal !,your not letting it warm up properly if you put it in gear before it drops.
Let alone the strain put to your drive line components at high rpm.
These engines are etc controlled

Not to mention, it's "fly-by-wire" throttle

FWIW, the "surge" at start-up is to aid in heating up the catalytic converter faster and to reduce unwanted emissions.
