I have a 1989 F159 with dual tanks. Neither fuel pump comes on when I turn on the key. The high pressure pump works fine. If I start the truck it will run great for a while then sputter and die. If it sits for 10 minutes it starts again for a while. I am thinking that both fuel pumps are bad but I thought I'd check here for ideas before I buy two.
Also, the fuel gauge shows way over full on both tanks.

Reason: forgot something
I hate to jack the thread but no one wants to answer my question. I get no power to either pump and the switch will change the gauge over but the pumps dont get power. Could the switch cause this?
Also tried that grounding trick and it did nothing.
I find it hard to belive that both pumps would go bad at the same time. I'd try putting power to the pumps directly and removing the switch and testing it for continuity.
Youre a very lucky man. If I wasn't too lazy to install my new sending unit in the rain I wouldn't have been able to have taken this amazing photo.
The red and black wires are power to the people. No that's not right! I mean power to the pump. apply power directly and listen for pump sounds.
If it works it's probably the selector switch or wiring harness. I took mine apart last week and cleaned all the contacts the painted them with Di-electric grease, also cleaned all the grounding straps I could find and hit them with the di electric grease as well. Likely got nothing to do with your problem but won't hurt.
Front Tank = FP Ground = Black or Orange
Front Tank = FP Power = Red
Front Tank = Gauge = Dark Blue with Yellow Stripe
Front Tank = Sen Ground = Black
Rear Tank = FP Ground = Black or Orange
Rear Tank = FP Power = Brown with White Stripe
Rear Tank = Gauge = Yellow with Lt Blue Stripe
Rear Tank = Sen Ground = Black
Note that "Sen Ground" goes to the pump body and has no wires inside tank and the sender is screwed to the pump body for ground.
The "FP Ground" does not have continuity to the pump body or tank.

I did not see where you have asked a question above.
But it would be easier to read your post and answer you questions without that photo.
I do not know what year or type of truck you are asking about but you might check the Inertia fuel shutoff switch.
If you have a truck and not a van then you would not have the pump on the frame if yours is a 1990 or newer.
