It's snowballing............

So here's the scopp fellas. I took my truck into work a while back just to get the codes pulled, CE light was on. Turned out to be the o2 sensor, just like I thought. I decide it's time for a tune up, she wasn't quite runnin right, so got plugs, wires, fuel filter and air filter. Take the truck to the farm, put all the new goodies on, fire it up and its runnin worse than before. I'd noticed on the way out it was an absolute pig on gas. 2/3 of a tank for 130km. Week before I'd gotten 600 out of a tank. So, check the fuel pressure, and its got about 90PSI in the fuel rail. So, put on a new FPR. Go to start the truck, its still over-fueling, and fires against the starter, breaking the planetary drive inside. So now I need a new starter as well. Get one of those, get the truck started, and its still runnin like crap, and by now we have no freakin clue why this is, so I bring it back into Brandon for a mechanic friend who moonlights to look at. He's had the truck for a week now, has no clue whats wrong, and is startin to think the ECM has screwed up. Sure makes me wish I had a carbeurated 302 with a 4 speed..........

Well the computer has no control over the fuel pressure, it just tells the injectors to open and close. If you had 90 psi something is really wrong in your fuel system since it's supposed to be 45 psi. Have you posted in the Fuel injection forum?

The problem there was the fuel pressure regulator. After we replaced it, that problem was no longer there.

The problem there was the fuel pressure regulator. After we replaced it, that problem was no longer there. The truck now has the correct fuel pressure, yet is still running like crap. The friend working on it has tried to scan the ECM and gets no readings whatsoever.

That is weird. Does it sound different when it runs now? Maybe needs a new cap and rotor? The timing checked? I would start with the easy, cheaper stuff, and go from there, especially if its not throwing out a code.

It sounds a bit different, its still over-fueling somehow. You can hear the unburnt fuel igniting in the exhaust. It has a distributorless ignition, so that's not the problem, although it could be the coil pack or somethin. But not only is it not showing any codes from the ECM, it's not showing anything at all, or so I've been told.

Hmm thats strange. Have you tried posting it, or searching some of the repair forums? Most of the time you can find what your problem is there, and if you cant, ask, and you should get a reply. There is some pretty smart guys in there!

Try throwing back in the old plugs. If it runs good then you got bad plugs. I have had that happen to me with crappy plugs or plug wires. It still should not over fuel.
Like others have said post in the fyuel section or the scetion with your year of truck and see what you get.

Tried that too (the old plugs and wires), it didn't change anything. Haven't posted in the fuel section yet, but going to later.

Gas??? I thought it was a diesel, j/k. Fuel systems aren't my forte either. I'm pretty good at most aspects of repairs, but fuel systems baffle me. Don't know how to rebuild a carb, given my luck I'm bound to lose somethin, and don't like the idea of even tampering with EFI.

Actually, I have rebuilt a few carbs, just with a kit, and they arent that bad to do at all. Pretty much take it apart, and replace it with the new stuff. As long as you remember where everything goes your all goods.
