Great story man. I love the "hammer" trails as well.
Before you brek any more windows, you should know that your factory antenna will unlock your doors in about 2 seconds. If you remove the antenna, and stick it between the top of the door and the cab, it can be done without tearing the seal, or even scratching the paint. Then poke it at the unlock button from directly above. A Guy at the window place showed this trick to me, after I too broke my own window to gather my keys that were locked inside.

Your story seriously made my night - thanks! I can't believe you had pictures, too!

You guys out west can seeminly find those pre-runner, or offroad racing, style front brush guards... no company out here even knows about them... any hints as to companies to contact for some styles for the front of my '99?

Thanks for that write up, again,
GD

That is just the nature of the two websites. FTE has a lot of great people here that are willing to help. Pirate does too, but there are a lot of people there that feel the only way to communicate is to call you a bunch of names and swear at you. You will also have those that will remind you that Pirate is an "extreme rockcrawling" site and to take this desert stuff and you know what with it. While that may be the roots of the website you will notice that they have been changing some of their web pages to say "extreme off road" to appeal to a larger market.

either way - i thought it was funny that the folks that chimed back with intellectually childish fervor - were NOTHING like the REAL folks that i come across out in the desert ALL THE TIME!!

i have never met anyone out there who wouldnt have dropped everything to help someone in need - especially someone less experienced...and i would AND HAVE - done the same for others...no biggee.

c'est la vie.

either way - FORD FOLKS ARE STILL THE BEST!!

Hell, besides the desert folks, I think I like yun's guys' attitudes much better (well, that and your mechanical knowledge - seems like I switched in with a 'different' group of truck owners when I moved from the 1987-1996 Ford Truck and the Straight Six forums to the 1997-2003 forum...) than even other places on this site.

Thanks for the desert brush guard links! the one ORU guard looks pretty much like what I envisioned.

i dunno - bought it that way with only 29k on the odo. - and shed - NEVER been offroad - EVER!!!

she has cobra seats - and the ENTIRE truck (except the cab) is fiberglass - even the bed.

she has the 10" rearend - and the 5.4L motor...shes soon to get gears and headers - and i installed the pre-runner bumper today (ill post pics tomorrow)

next is the lights (5 total) and a new alternator - then she'll be ready for baja!!!

ill keep you posted.
