The only issue you'll run into with that "clip" missing is that the leaf springs in the middle of the pack may start to twist and come out of alignment with the other springs in the pack. It's really of no safety concern unless you end up with a leaf contacting a tire. I've seen people use stainless hose clamps in place of the 'clips' but I think it looks tacky. Is there another clip on the other end of the spring pack? If so, drive it and forget about it.

It's just a spring clamp. They stop the leaves from twisting out of alignment. The U-bolts on the axle stop them from going too far. Most auto parts store sell spring clamps if you are concerned about it. You can usually get a little more spring flex without them though.

Yes you can get more spring flex but it can also lead to breaking a main leaf...bad deal.

If you do a lot of off road stuff, the leafs will end up spreading out. I guess under a load this could break a leaf in the pack, though I have never seen it happen. I have been thinking about using muffler clamps on mine. The real question is how to remove the rivet and replace it that holds the clip in place.

go to jeffs bronco graveyard www.broncograveyard.com and get one. they are really cheap. i know we cant talk money and prices on this site, so lets just say around a couple gallons of gas would be a good swap for one.

The ones you get from auto parts stores are different than the stock ones. The new one will be a square u-bolt with a bracket to hold it to the spring. Just clamp it on next to where the old used to be.

Just grind it flat and knock it out. If it sticks, drill a 1/8 hole in the middle and then try it. I meant putting another rivet in its place is the tough part.
