I'm a former Ex owner (01 XLT) looking to go back. I'm looking at an 04 EB with the 6.0 diesel. The dealer says it does not have a block heater. Can that be right? Or does it just not have the plug & wire? I heard that in 05 all diesels were made with the element, but the wire was optional. Was this also the case with the 04?
Also, is the skid plate for the transfer case a simple bolt on or would there be cutting and drilling involved?
I can't remember if it was an option on mine or not, however my '04 EB came w/ the block heater, it just took me "forever" to find the plug that was tucked way up behind the right side front fender.
btw, if you do get that '04 6.0 and want a heck of a deal on an Edge Juice/Platinum controller, I have an extra one.
Is it an actual Ford dealer? I bout my X from a Chevy dealer that didn't know a single thing about my X, they would have been lucky to find where the engine was. A friend found my plug, otherwise I wouldn't have. Mine is a 7.3, and I'm no 6.0 expert, but I'll bet that it's just a matter of finding it.
Depending on where the X is from, I believe it may not have a block heater. I have an '04 F-250 with the 6.0 and have had no problems on cold starts as low as 2 degrees without using my block heater. If it is there, the factory tucks it up in the front pass. side and It is very hard to see the plug end.
According to the Carfax report, the X is from Wisconsin. I would hope it would have the block heater up there. I'm in Northern Virginia. It's an auction buy.
Believe it or not it is at a Ford dealer, but then again lots of the used car salesmen I've talked to are real scumbags and know nothing about the cars they are selling.
Excursionator, pardon my total ignorance, but what is an "Edge Juice/Platinum controller"?? I'm new to this diesel thing. This would be the first one I've owned.
My 05 6.0 is from Dallas and did not come with one. Last winter it did fine here in Detroit but I am debating getting one put in. Dealer says about $300 installed.
Most of the time it's there, it's just that it's really hard to get to. I thought I didn't have one, but one of the service advisors felt around upfront and found it. I'd take the time and look for it, your dealer may be charging you just to keep your truck for a few hours then give it back with the plug hanging out.
