Finally, all the glas is delivered.... ready for installing, got new gaskets (seals), now the big question... this is going into the 50 F 1, do I put the glass into the seal dry, or is there a sealant that goes in between the windsheild and the seal? and between the cab and the seal ?
congrats. i havnt ordered mine yet, but i will need all new. who did you gon through? yes sealant is used between glass and seal, not sure if it is between the seal and truck though.
Use bedding compound between the glass and seal. You can later remove window pretty easy if needed. At least until the seal gets hard. You don't use sealant between the seal and cab on a 53 anyway. If it leaks you gotta do what you gotta do of course.
got the seal on the window... applied the rubber cement ( per the enclosed instructions), put the cord in the seal, put the soapy water on the outside of the seal .... started installing.... it was really going smooth, and looking so good.... by buddy ( Trevor) was helpin,, and he was on the outside, pushing inward.... and the window cracked. Now I ask you.... what would have you done? .
No, I didn't even swear, or yell, or throw any thing. I looked at it, and said "well it kinda looks like the last one", "... if I hang the fuzzy dice just right, you can't hardly notice it from the drivers seat...".
So, yes I was disappointed, but I will order another one and try it again.
Fortunately, no one ever told me I could not do something, so I have tried many things over the years, learned a lot of hard lessons. Used to buy wrecks and rebuild totals, etc. But experience with glass has taught me my limitations and one thing I hire out is puttin in windshields and back glass. Money well spent. Course if you take them the glass they are not going to guarantee you that they will not break it so best to buy from installer if reasonable.
you're a better man than me... I would have GONE OFF !!!!
Sorry about your misfortune. Do you know what you did wrong so you won't do it next time? If not, I'd research the install before repeating the same mistake.
Man, we MUST love these ol trucks to tolerate what we do !!!! :7
ok... got the windshield on 12/5, called the glass guy who does all my cabs, and he came over on 12/7, the "new" windshield was "too big", so took it back on 12/9, and they ground it down in all the appropraite spots. picked it up on 12/10, and we installed it (trevor and I) ( yes I still have a friend named trevor, and I still let him help with the glass) ( he likes to block sand too). SO THE WINDSHIELD IS INSTALLED!!!! installed the new door glass in the drivers door, nad the Power windows work great. now the passenger door.....
