I am looking at purchasing an Expedition but want to know the differences between the EB & XLT. I also noticed some have 2 captain chairs in the second row, like my Wife has in her mini-van. Can't figure out difference between EB & XLT.
As far as I can tell, and XLT owners correct me if I'm wrong, but...
The Eddie Bauer has the following additional standard features:
Electronic Automatic Temperature Control w/aux. rear controls
Driver's Seat remembers settings for you
6-disc cd changer (New ones are in-dash, mine is in-console)
Premium Sound System
The new ones have a Navigation System (My 2001 doesn't)
Readouts: Fuel economy, compass, outside temp, estimated miles to empty
Day/Night Auto-Dimming rear view mirror
Side mirrors are heated, power, and include turn signal
There's also some heated seat stuff that my 2001 doesn't have.
Hope that helps! You can go to Ford.com and download a brochure for more info.
I think it really depends on what year you're looking at, but Mr.Novice is pretty much correct as far as I know.
My '99 EB doesn't have the following things that he lists:
turn signal in mirrors (they are heated though)
Drivers seat doesn't have memory
Rearview mirror doesn't auto-dim
Now for my own experience here's a list of what is different on my '99 EB expy and my room mates '01 F-150 XLT Supercrew:
EB has leather
EB has sunroof
EB has heated seats
EB has Auto-headlamps
EB has Premium (Mach) sound w/ 6 disk changer + Sub
EB has overhead readout with fuel milage and miles till empty (XLT only shows compass and outside temp) (outside temp on EB shows in Climate control)
EB has heated side mirrors
EB has automatic climate control with rear controls (XLT only has dials for warmer/colder, etc.)
EB has power driver seat
That's pretty much all I can think of right now. There may be some more minor things.
May not be true for all year models, but here are my observations having owned both: Fender cladding for EB, EB has same-body-color grille-frame as opposed to chrome, bumper trims is somehow different in EB, less chrome I believe. EB comes standrad with 17" wheels which I believe is optional for XLT. The rear quarter glass is power operated on EB, and so is the antenna if I remember correctly.

Thanks for your help.
What year/generation?
The split bench in the middle is standard, quad captains are optional.
Also the trim on the leather is different in the Expy. It looks different, but it may be a better quality (at least in my year model). I've heard so many people complain about their leather in 97-2001 year models, but mine is still very nice with no rips/tears/etc. It's not as nice as King Ranch leather, but it's a good quality anyway.
Thank you for the info. What about the second row seating Captains chairs VS a bench? The EB I am looking at has the two captain's chairs. Any pros or cons for them?
The captain's chairs in the middle row have the advantage of keeping two kids from 'touching' each other while on the way to grandma's house, and make it easier to get to the 3rd row, at the expense of reducing the total number of people you can carry by one.
My 2nd row bench floods pretty darn flat so if you ever need to caryy alot of cargo it is nice. Not sur how the captains fold and you would have the center console in the way.
My 2000 has the second row captains and they both fold down and there is no center console to deal with. For ease of getting to the third row the captains chairs are the way to go if you plan on using your third row. We looked at plenty of Expy's with the 2nd row bench seat and to get out from the third row was a pain.
6 disc in dash changer
heated mirrors
leather
auto headlights
auto rear veiw mirror
heated mirrors
power driver seat
front and rear heat
front and rear stereo
You guys forgot to mention about $5000.00 more on the window sticker. I have to say, that there is nothing on my EB that I could not live without, my mom has a 2001 XLT with most of the options, it does not handle or ride any different, but is seems a little quicker and shorter 16" vs. 17" wheels I guess.
me and my brother both have a 98 x
his is a eb mine a xlt
the eb has digital readout for temp mpg etc, air ride suspension or leveling,17"wheels, leather, signal mirrors,
they both have a 3rd seat premium sound power seat
the eb just has a few more bells and whistles
ive seen some perty stripped xlt tho i guess it was just how ford built it
