Exhaust Converter Question

My truck (97 F150 SuperCab 4x4 4.6L) is currently in the shop getting the exhaust system worked on. Two of the converters are shot. The mechanic ( a family member luckily) priced the new Y pipe at $1100. He is not sure but had an idea of replacing the stock system with 2 Stage 3 converters( instead of the 4) and dual exhaust. He doesn't know if this will mess with the O2 sensors. Anyone else ran something like this? (The new way is half the price). Any help would be appreciated.

$1100 for a new Y-pipe? Is he out of his mind?

Try a different mechanic. If you're trying for a new sound and need new converters, a muffler shop can start with the Y-pipe and do everything behind that for a good bit less than $1100, that's ridiculous!

Why dont you just bend up a new frotn pipe and wled in 2 high flow cats and a couple of o2 sensor bungs. I custom bend exhaust at my shop, it is not that hard.

I agree. I would never pay that much for a Y pipe.

Make your own, make it better

I had a custom exhaust put it, 2 high flow cats and mufflers, went to true dual exhaust. Sounds great now!
