I was setting the timing, 8º seems to be best, vac line taped off, in gear 750-800rpm. Although I noticed the vac line from the carb has vac all the time ? I thought at idle it was supposed to be no vac ?? I'm sure there is some dialing in to do..gonna head over to Harbor Freight for a vac gauge today and see what I can dial in..

Nice!
If that really is the "ported vacuum" port where you have vacuum at idle, here's the thing:
There's a little hole in each primary venturi, that's just above the throttle plates. As the plates open, that hole is uncovered, and the air flowing past it produces vacuum.
If you're getting vacuum there at idle, you have the throttle plates too far open - either the idle is too high, or you don't have enough advance requiring the plates be opened further to idle.
What cam is in it?
8 degrees might not be enough ...

http://fastengineparts.com/products_view.php?id=1539 this is the RV cam that came with the rebuild kit. (I know Rusty) ...but it's in there, we'll see if that will change down the road.
So if the idle at 750rpm in gear with the vac line off and plugged... is pulling a vac off the tube in front of the choke assembly.. I should be able to move the dizzy around and find a spot where the vac subsides ?

4180 Holley is louder than the engine!!
What the hell? I decided to give the 4bbl a shot as the 2bbl seemed to be in order more or less.. 1st the filter fitting leaked gas all over... my fault. Then I get it to fire after about 20 attempts.."You cannot plug off the vent tubes" it wont run!! I learned something on my own for once!!.. So it fires and shoots to 5k 6k ? I **** my self even though the hand was on the ignition.. Sounded Awsome..neighbor might not agree...So the linkage has issues, springs seems to week to handle return, idling below 1500 is just near impossible..If it wernt for the fact the engine sounded like it could rip a freekin house down.. I'd give up now...
Mostly the hiss from the carb airflow is just ungodly..???? Ideas.. is this normal..??
