I have a stock 2000 f150 4x4. I recently got some new 18x8 rims and tires are next. I have decided to get some 285/65r18 BF Goodrich All Terrains. The tires are only 33's and the rims are only 1/2 an inch wider than the OEM wheels.
My question is what, if any, suspension mods would be needed to make room for this set-up. I really like the looks of the rims and tires, but want to know what rubbing or other clearance problems I will have to face. Maybe a levling kit or some type of body lift will help? I'm not really sure. Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the tip. I just got a set of 18x8 Lightning rims for cheap and was debating whether to use these on my truck or sell them. I have electronic four wheel drive, so hubs aren't a problem. It really comes down to looks and if these are practical (I'm going with 33 inch tires too).
What do you guys think of this idea? I have a white 2000 F150 4x4. Here's a link for a pic of the rims, its kind of blurry but you get the idea:
I have 285x75x16's on my '97, and there is plenty of room for the tires. I havent measured it...but I would say there is a good 1.5-2 inches of clearance between the tire and the front air-dam. And that is with the torsion bars at the stock setting.
ATC, how wide are the rims you are using? I'm debating whether some 285s will fit on my 7.5 inch rims. The rims are the issue here, figuring out if the 285s would balloon or mushroom.

NAK - 285 should work. You can look at the manufacturers suggested rim width and anything within 1" of that should be fine. You can actually go at least 315's on 7.5" rims. Not sure about anything above that.
What tire width do you guys think would look good? I want them to be fat but not hang out too far from the body. I was considering the 285s because of this, but was debating whether to move up to some 295s or 305s.
I'm also getting a 2" body lift when I decide to purchse the tires. Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the numbers, but I also would like to hear some opinions on what width would best suit my truck, with a 2" body lift. Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Nix the body lift. Get a torsion key leveling kit to raise the front about 2 inches.they work well and mostly retain the stock ride. TRUXXX makes a nice, very high quality kit. Sounds like a good choice in tire size, approx 32.6" o.d
there is also a 325/60r18(33.35"o.d.), but you really dont have a wide enough wheel for these! Hope this helps
