I found a Donor 5.0 efi

I found a 1985 tbird with a 5.0 throttle body efi with an auto with overdrive.

I think the swap in it will be much less trouble with the throttle body ( I hope not as many wires)

Does anybody have any experience with the throttle body swap?

To make the deal even sweeter the guy had 2 and 1985 and a 1984Fila Tbird both with 5.0 auto/od and I got both for $900.00 drove the 84 home ran really good...

Thanks

Wade

From my limited experience, and from what I have heard, stay away from that combo. The throttle body EFI was based on the old EEC III processor and was trouble prone and difficult to diagnose. You will be better off to stay with 87-93 setups.

Nice find! I wish I knew a thing or two about EFI so I could help you out, but I just know about good 'ol carb-u-ration! (no, I don't actually say it that way, I say carburation)

Hrandy 48,

Do you know how much trouble it would be to swap the throttle body to a regular carb?

Can't a new manual carb just bolt on to the intake or at worst case change intakes?

A regular 2 barrel ford carb is a direct bolt on but you would have to find one off a truck that also had an AOD tranny. A regular one won't have the required kickdown to control the TV cable/rod.

stay the course 87-93 stang or 87-90 lincoln mark vii forget about the rest, I got my 88 mark vii for a couple hundred complete but it was not running due to a bad fuel pump, I had a spare kicking around. That motor you are looking at puts out what 140 hp, the HO motors put out 225 have forged pistons and roller cams, and better heads.

I agree with Gary E. I went to a lot of trouble to change my carbed setup on my '49 Merc over to multi-port EFI and have never regretted it. When it came time to do my '57 F100, there was no question. NO CARBS here. The HO version of the 5.0 is just such a nice setup. Yes you could change manifold on the T-bird engine and install a carb. It is a must to get the linkage for the transmission done correctly, however.

I also agree with Gary E. Electronic Fuel injection just has too many pluses to ignore! The best being fuel mileage and drivability!
I have an 88 HO that I am working on right now to replace my enemic 140 hp 2bbl.302.
