gas tank help
Hello List: I need a gas tank for my 89 f-150. It 's a short box, 4x4, 6 cyl.
The parts store said there are 2 sizes for this model, however I never really filled the tank up to capicity to ascertain if it's 16 or 19 gal. And now it leaks, so would like to know if there is any way to check without filling the tank....thanks for any and all help.....jim

From 1988 Specifications book the Standard tank is 18.2 gallons and is in the rear of rear axle above spare tire I believe. If you only have one tank this is probably it.
The optional tank is in the front of the rear axle on the left side of frame rail and is listed as 16.2 gallons. This is for SWB (116.8") 4X4; The LWB 4X4 (133") lists 18.2 as rear tank (Optional) and 19 gal front tank as standard.
