If it's carbureted, Look under the top of the air cleaner cover and into throat of carb while someone pushes the accelerator, or move the throttle linkage to open the throttle plates - watch for gas to squirt into bore from accelerator pump. If nothing the accelerator pump is not working or the float level is not right/no gas in carb bowl.
Be careful, some 87's I believe are fuel injected as are the later models and must be tested other ways.
