If I reinforced my truck adding weight in the rear (92 single cab Long box) increasing the suspension could I fit a 5.9litre cummins diesel engine into the truck.????
no obviously this is very extreme I would have to switch out alot of stuff but can it be done.???
A 460 is not a big deal...but most everything would need to be replaced (but could be swapped off a donor truck).
A diesel would be a big deal...pretty much everything in the truck powertrain/drivetrain and suspension wise would be gone and replaced. There was a guy on here who had a 5.9 cummins in his truck but I havn't seen him around in awhile (not that I've looked). It would be more of an undertaking than the 460.
There is no real limit with what you can do...it's just a matter of if you want to go through all of that just to get what it is that you want.
What you wouldn't want, that happens to many, is they don't plan the project well enough and they end up bailing out and are stuck with a half modified truck.

a 460 is a bolt in if you have the donor truck. So is a 6.9/7.3 (instead of a cummins)...except if youre 4wd you need to adress the front diff strength and suspension spring rate. As well as a tranny, t case, and rear diff just because the more power, duh....you could probably get away with some stiffer front coils and keep the f150 ttb if its used more on the highway than offroad. Plus if you ever plan on sticking a tire larger than a 33" on with the bigger engine in, you can plan on at least a solid D44 going in while youre at it.
One ton axles IMO are manditory for a 460/diesel setup.
The 1/2 ton axles won't like the weight of a diesel...and it won't like the tq from either of them.
1 ton trucks with large engines use heavy axles so they can handle the weight and the power under all circumstances. If you try and run 1/2 ton axles on that setup...it's a matter of time until you break something. Kind of a hack job.
I have a friend who put the turbo 24V cummins/six speed into an older F150, and it required a lot of boxing of the frame to increase structural integrity. He also used chevy axles but that's another story
over on Pirate, a guy did a 5.9L Cummins swap to a Bronco. It can be done, and its not even that hard. The guy owns a junkyard or something, so alot of it was "free".
lol man I remember seeing that over on another forum for fullsize bronco dot com. There was a link for the pie rat four by four dot com thread on it also.
The linking filters annoy me, if it wasnt for other forums I might not have found this one. Thats another story tho.
