Anyone Have A Crossmember For The Front Of A 55 Truck Bed?i Got The Bed But Need A Front Crossmember.i Don't Know What It Looks Like So I Can't Have One Made.i'm Putting It On My 48 So I'll Have To Drill The Holes Anyway I'm Told.the Rear Crossmember Fit Is Ok Holes Line Up Ok.
Thanks Art.
oh sorry, they must be bad pics... They are not the same.. The front cross member looks like a Z from the side... It has a top flange, one side, and a bottom flange..
the center one's have a top, two sides and two bottom flanges
I think maybe one is talking about the one on the front panel and the other is refering to the X menbers as they go back.
That would make ya both right !!!
just a guess
Mine look like _/ \_ on the end view with a slight angle on the bottom to accomodate the arc of the frame. Jag
On the 55 there are 2 that look like that, they go in the interior of the bed, about 1/3 from either end, these sit on top of the frame (on rubber pads).
The wood rests on the top of these cross members.
The front cross member is the Z looking one that bolts to the front bed panel and then two bolts go into the sleeves on the side down thru the ears of the mounts on the frame rails.. The wood rests on the top of the flange of the front panel, the top part of the Z is under the flange.
Yep, Mike and Sam are right. I was thinking of the two cross members located on either side of the axle. The front support, just behind the cab is shaped like a Z. Sorry about that, I only have the two interior supports, not the Z. Jag
Since you need the one for the front, can't you just use a length of rectangular or square tubing? it will be hidden anyway
Bobby
Yes.. It would make it a little hard to bolt thru
wood-> panel flange -> rectangular tube. there are 7 bolts that go thru here, 1 for each bed board..
I am going to epoxy/somthing the threaded part of some nutserts into the bottom of the boards and bolt from the bottom up.. having no bolts show.
I have to raise the wood an inch to make room from the rear end pumpkin when my airbags are all the way down. So I am adding a 1x2 in tube box on top of the lip to raise the wood.. same on the other cross members and rear at the tailgate.
Thanks for the info.Anyone have the measurements for the front one ? I could make one. Thanks for the offer jag red 54.If I have to I'll use something else.
THANKS AGAIN
