Transmission flush
1996 Ford F250 4x4 HD 5.8. Need to replace tranny gasket and filter; don't know which fluid to use or how to find out which tranny I have. I do know that it is a 17 bolt pattern, any info would help.

E4od is my guess, but it could be a Cx too. These should narrow it down.

Ford is starting to say for the older transmission, fluid is fluid. Use a good quality mercron rated ATF and you should be fine. If you aren't draining the torque converter have about 10 qts on hand, if you are have 20. You shouldn't need that much, but you'll have it for later on.
