Just curious - about the different boosters, etc. Would a '75 F-250 SC with HD brakes have a different booster ? I know the rear brakes are a bit smaller dia. but 1/2" wider. Are the front disc's different too ?

The main thing about boosters is the VIN# for 1979's.

Anything after DJ0001 has a different way of mounting compared to a Pre-DJ0001 made truck.

For those asking about boosters,

There is a LINK to looking up boosters in Post #2.

Slow, The fulcrum should be visible from the engine compartment, and is mounted behind the power booster, and is between the bracket that mounts to the firewall and power brake booster.

George Fraiser, it seems your truck has the brake power booster which has the push rod from the brake power booster to the brake pedal. In order to upgrade to the F350 style brake power booster, you will need the bracket and fulcrum style linkages as shown in picture (post #7) or link on post #18.

1975Ford, I looked.. there's some plastic shield covering the connection to the brake system. Only thing I can see/feel is a big black plastic cover back there.. :-/

I was planning to pull it off today but I forgot my tools (it's in another shop, stripped for paint!). I'll try tomorrow or tonight.

The dash is off of it right now too.. any way to tell from that side?

Thanks for your help!

Slow, pin with cotter pin should be visible from the top or witha mirror from the bottom in the engine compartment. Will not be visible from inside the cab (under the dash).

Here is another picture.

The rear brake line will need a 3/8" brake fitting. I had previously mentioned 3/16" and this was a typo. Make sure to double flare the rear brake line with the 3/8" brake fitting.

All I see is plastic.. since you're being so damned cool I'm gonna go down there right now and rip it off and take a picture . Top and bottom is all plastic.. I can't see anything. Some kind of dust shield or something? Anyway, we'll see shortly.

The plastic you are seeing is probably the dust shield. Don't tear it out. Take a picture and post it. It seems the boot you have mentioned is like the one on post #2.

The booster in post #2 bolts directly to the firewall. there is no space behind it .

The boot shown is inside the cab.

OK, sorry for all the pictures but this may be interesting to others as well. This is a 79 f-250 crew cab. It came with a d44 front (I have 2 others with d60 fronts, 1 ton running gear, dunno if that'd matter).

Anyway, here it is in the truck:

Here it is out with the plastic boot:

Here it is with the dust cover off:

And here is how the truck currently sits.. waiting for paint! woot!

Also have an engine all done up pretty ready to go in .

So, my question is.. I just bought the master cylinder a few months ago as it went too. Now the brake booster is gone.. is there an upgrade here? Can I grab the 79 f-350 brake booster and get more stopping power?

Thanks guys!

Here a picture of the 1978 F350 2wd brake power booster mounted on my 1976 F150 4x4. https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...131685&width=0. The booster is smaller in diameter and longer in length. The dual master cylinder and will supply the much need fluid pressure to the dual brake caliper units.

Slow, Okay, It's like Mil1ion mentioned,
The main thing about boosters is the VIN# for 1979's.
Anything after DJ0001 has a different way of mounting compared to a Pre-DJ0001 made truck.
The current system will not work with the 1978 F350 2wd brake power booster unit setup. The rod going into the booster is too long and the rod bolts directly to the brake pedal.

The master cylinder off the 1978 F350 and your F250 seems to be the same size.

You would need to located the bracket and linkages as shown on https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gallery/displayimage.php?photoid=131645&width=0 from the rod and dust boot on brake power booster.
Then the 1978 F350 2wd brake power booster can mount to that bracket and linkages.

I agree with Uncle Mil1ion. Here is the brake power boosters listed for your truck, based on the information you have provided.
@ advance auto part number R2512675 is for you truck.

Slow, One thing to when order you this part, and if you decide to go with the original setup because there were a few available for the 1979 year and is dependent on the following:
  1. Year make and Model.
  2. Vin number sequence.
  3. 4x4.
  4. Dual caliper setup.
  5. Does truck have cruise control.
Your truck is coming around , what color are you planning on painting an what size of engine are you planning on installing?
The hard work will pay off once your done.
