6.9 Defective CDR ?

Having read the past CDR posts, I took off the CDR (I hope that is the correct name) and cleaned it today. I noticed a small trickle of oil coming from it into the intake while at idle. Since I have never serviced that item, I'm not sure it's working.

After cleaning it in gas and flushing out any oil, I can see a spring that appears to not have any tension on it, and the air flow is wide open from the crankcase inlet to the air intake. I see a tiny air hole on the rear side of it and figure something has to move some time. Question is when and how?

I'm having problems with white smoke, lots of white smoke, unless the engine fully warmed up.

The IP has just been change, new Injectors and return hoses installed. Have not sealed off the fuel return line to the fllter yet. Glow plugs checked and the GP system has the manual switch installed. Engine starts normal except rough at idle and a rummmp type sound again at idle untill ran for a while.

Also when the injectors got replace, the one from the rear cyclinder on the drivers side was wet with oil or fuel and built up crud. Engine has not been using more than a quart of oil in 3000 miles.

Any thoughts of what to do next ?

The intake manifold vacuum sucks the rubber gasket and restricts the blowby flow and possible oil into the intake.

I can not see any rubber parts inside that CDR, just brass.

When should the CDR close ?

Today when inspecting the area around the CDR, I located a drip of diesel coming from the return fuel line. This is just aft of the conection between the the left and right banks at the rear of the engine.

Just tightening the small hose clamp to the line that goes back to the tank appears to have made a big improvement in the amount of white smoke coming out the exhaust. I will check later on to see if that line needs replaced also.

Question: Could this help or cause the crude on the rear #8 injector that I saw when the injectors where replaced? Or would the crude come from the CDR not being serviced or working propertly?

The relative low pressure in the intake manifold draws the CDR closed at higher RPM.

If you blow in the little vent hole on the back with your mouth you should feel the CDR close if you stick your finger in the hole that was against the intake throat.

If you do not fell it move or there is no resistance to your breath in the little vent hole, the diaphram is ruptured and it needs replaced.
