Time to replace CDR?

My '86 has been burning about 1 qt every 500 miles. At startup and sometimes under hard acceleration I see blue smoke. I cleaned the CDR real good as described in this forum about 600 miles back. When I pulled the air cleaner off I could see oil puddled up on the bottom of the CDR tube that connects to the intake manifold. Is it time to replace it?

There will always be a certain amount of oily residue in the intake..... If the hold down bolt for the air cleaner is covered that would be a sign to replace/service CDR.

How and when do you check your oil......... below is from an expert.

DieselDon

Oil consumption, and the proper checking of the oil levels in Ford diesels comes up periodically. Ford dipsticks are calibrated for hot oil. The 10 quarts in the IDI engines expand about 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart as the oil heats up, and contracts the same amout after cooling. If you check the oil first thing in the morning ( which I grew up doing ) the engines will all indicate oils level below full, but when checked hot, will ( after a 10 minute drain time ) the oil level is usually at full. If you are checking the oil cold, and keeping the level at full, you are actually over filling the engine which will burn of the extra rapidly.

Suggestion: Check oil hot after 10 minute drain time.
Don't add until level reaches add line ( 2 quarts ).

In my days at Ford this often cured, or at least improved, the apparent oil consumption complaints.

It appears you do not have email or PM receiving available so no other info can be sent to you....... that's to bad.

All they need to do to activate: is to go to user CP ,then go to options, then check the boxes.

Thanks for the tip bigred. I am now set up for receiving email.

Thanks for the hot oil check reminder PLC7.3 - I may have checked it too cold.

The hold down bolt was covered with oil - but I don't think it was serviced for a long time before I bought the truck. I'll clean it off and monitor.
