New Guy Here/Mirror Question....

Hello all,
This is my first time posting here so if the following question has been asked and answered before, I apologize but, I couldn't find it. I have a 01' Excursion Limited Diesel. I Have it running at right about 500HP. It's a sleeper as it is in basically stock trim except for a few accent items. There is nothing better than the looks I get from the yuppie little SUV owners when I blow their doors off. It's kind of a blank stare that all but says " It's not supposed to be able to do that"!
Anyway I hope somebody here can help. I have the paddle type mirrors. They are power, heated and have the red vee indicator that you can see through the mirror. I would like to go with the retractable type tow mirror, heated with the cool indicator on the outside edge. First, do I have the proper amount of circuitry from my current mirrors to do so? Also, if I do, does anybody know the ford part numbers for the specific mirror I'm asking about? My local dealer hasn't a clue but will order them if I can provide the part numbers for what will work. I hope you can help and thanks in advance, Jay.

I'm not sure about the part number, but just ask the ford dealer for heated and power towing mirrors with the signal idicator for a 2003 excursion limited becasue up '05 i'm pretty sure the mouting is different but not sure! What did you do to your engine? 500HP? Thats awsome?

Welcome to the board.

You say you have the paddle type mirrors with power, heat and the turn signal red blinker, I think someone may had done some wiring for the blinker. I don't think the turn signal on the mirrors were available for 2001.

The weren't available for the 2000 model year. They finally figured out how to get it on the Xs and SDs for the 2001 model year.

You do have the wiring for it, there's even an adapter plug for the conversion, it's just hard to find. Most people just splice the existing wires and they're in business. Two dealers told me that it mounts a little differently so it's not going to work. However, I've seen 2000 and 2001 MY Xs running around with these mirrors on.

OK,
Thanks for all the help so far. However, I have two more questions. First, I've found the adapters mentioned by Toreador. Will I need to run an additional circuit for the parking lamp function that these newer mirrors have or does the adapter someway take care of that?
Second, while I'm not a mechanic by trade but do my own work, I'm even less of an electrician or body man. Should I attempt to do this myself?

You found the adapters?!?

Those things are impossible to find...atleast in my area.....

You would have to splice into the headlight switch to get the parking light to work, but the rest should come right along with the adapter. There is a write up on this somewhere, but again, I have to find it. It was done as a one man operation, but two heads are almost always better than one. One last thing....where, oh where, did you get that adapter? Part numbers?
