93 F150, 302, automatic, 189,000 miles.
I had problems and codes. Got all of the codes cleared by fixing the problems.
Still I have a problem on the first start of the day. The only way I can get it to start is to cover the throttle body while cranking and it finally hits and starts.
It is getting fire. I have changed the plugs and checked the fuel pressure, all okay. Ran fuel pressure test on both tanks and they are okay.
I am pulling my hair out (both of them).
Any suggestions????????
Oh yeah the only code i am gettin is 11 which means all is good.........
And also once I get it going, it starts the rest of the day???
You have a vacuum leak and it could be:
1. EGR Valve open
2. Intake gaskets
3. Vacuum or vapor hose off or broken
4. PCV valve bad with dip stick not sealing
I checked for vacuum leaks with starting fluid and visually. any other suggestions on how to check for that?
Also some of the lines are brittle and i have replaced them with rubber instead of the hard plastic original. is there someplace reasonable to get the replacement hoses already precut, i will try replacing them all and see if that works. it driving me crazier.
THANKS
also forgot to mention, have replaced the pcv valve and checked and cleaned egr...could it be some sort of problem with injectors?? is there an easy way to clean them or check them?? not that up on ejectors but easily taught when it saves me money...
Some of my sm. black plastic christmas tree lines on the intake, and the ones comming out of the HVAC stuff have crumbled as the plastic gets brittle. I took sm. diameter rubber air line hose, 1/8 or 14 inch and cut up to the good plastic line and slid the rubber line over to replace the damaged/old part. It has worked fine.
Sometimes over looked for a big vacuum leak is a ruptured brake booster diaphragm.
Also bad heater/AC controls in the cab can be a vacuum leak too, just had one of these yesterday. Did not stop it from starting but it did run rough.
Have replaced EGR, checked everywhere i can find for leaks. The only thing i haven't done is taken the intake off and checked it but it hasn't been too long since i had it off and put on a new gasket when i put it back on. any ideas on how to check for intake leak?
do the propane test. find something like those small torches that you spin on top of a coleman propane tank, and rig it so that it doesnt fire, but instead just spits out gas. then, with your engine running, take the gas and run it down along the gasket line that you're wanting to check. if the gasket leaks, the propane will get sucked in, and the engine will rev up a little.
SInce my cats are gone i took the dangling pipe off (thermactor and crossover) plugged it. Checked all vacuum lines. cleaned everything. New gaskets put it all back together and still same problem. NO START......so does anybody have any idearsssssssssssss
