Well I got the cab off my project this weekend. I put a picture up in my gallery and another of the remains. Now the fun part begins. I also scored a nicer front end, an extra hood and a bed. I'll post more pictures when I wrap up some rust repair but it will probably be awhile.
Yes I am going to make a pickup out of it. You guys probably won't like what I'm going to do but I've wanted an older Ford for a driver for a while now and I'm too cheap to buy a done one so thats my plan
I like your plans so far. What do you have planned and why would we not like it? We're pretty forgiving here. That's gonna be one BIG pickup unless you plan to put the cab on a smaller frame...
I actually plan on using an S-10 frame. The front end I bought is from an F-1 and the bed from a '56 I have an older style tailgate to put on the bed but its pretty beat up. So it will be a real frankentruck haha.
Sounds cool to me. If you use the S-10 frame, document your conversion. There is far too little information around on frame conversions and the subject seems to come up on a regular basis. If you plan to use an S-10 rear, consider using one from a 4x4 as they are about four inches wider than the 2-wd S-10 rears. I think you will find the S-10 frame will be considerably narrow for your truck although reversed wheels or wheels with a minimum back space may help. My own truck is a minor frankentruck being a 48 F-3 cut down to F-1 size...so frankentruck is good. Welcome to the darkside...
There are a lot of Frankentrucks here, darksiders are most welcome. Yes, please do document your experiences with lots of pix posted to your gallery. Do you have experience with frame swaps? Frame swaps is a frequent topic here so it would be good to have more first hand info available. The S-10 doesn't even come close to fitting so do show others what they are in for to make it work.
OOPs GNW didn't mean to repeat your post! It appeared while I was composing mine, great minds think alike tho or something like that!
read thru that article, yes it is low, and so far looks kinda dumb with the wheels so far inboard of the fenders. He is going to use a wider rear end, that's good, but the front is going to be trouble, you can't put 2" (from stock) offset wheels on an IFS without mega problems with steering geometry and parts wear. besides that deep a wheel would look like some of the cars with the rubberband tired rollerskate wheels, hardly appropriate for a fat fendered truck unless you are going for the lowrider look.
He's done the relatively easy part, mounting the cab, now the fun begins getting everything else to fit. Still seems like the long way around to get to the end of having a low F1 with a CSB and IFS IMHO.
He could have installed a Jag IFS and IRS and engine of choice for <1/2 the work, and had a better finished product that looked and drove right???
I agree 100% with you AX. I just posted the link to give him some reference if he went that route.
In my opinion for a frameswap to work, you choose a frame that has the same design like the factory one, not one with a close wheelbase. It's alot easier to make it shorter than wider. I think mine turned out well but it might be a little HD for some people.
Thanks for the encouraging words guys I myself have never done a S-10 frame swap but I do have a good resource to get help. I made a little progress tonight. I sealed up the old gas tank fill hole. Its not perfect but I am no expert and its nothing a little duraglass won't fix Put a pic in my gallery and a pic of my twisted tailgate.

I ask again (devil's advocate mode), then why would you want to, except possibly to build a rat rod with no other sheetmetal than cab and bed so wheelbase and tread width doesn't matter? IMHO just because something can be done doesn't mean it should be done. Putting any body on a frame that it doesn't fit on falls in the latter category in my way of thinking especially if the result is not a functional improvement. If one must reinvent the wheel at least make it round...
Well I guess it will be a "rat rod" then *shrug* I have to use what is around here and in my price range(read I am a cheap *******). Oh well my buddy has built several F1s on S10 frames including a 53 right now that is really nice although not technically as Henry intended if you know what I mean. When I post pictures of the finished product and you don't like it I promise it won't hurt my feelings
So to sum it up why would I use a S10 frame? They are cheap, plentiful and allow me to run SBC(I know a Chevy in a ford tsk tsk) Oh well I told you you wouldn't like my plans but I want a driver not years and years of work restoring a truck.
