Does anyone know when Ford started to put 2 big cats in our trucks instead of 4 small ones??? I have a 4.6 and its a 2005...I beleive its an early 05, and when I went underneath the truck, I can clearly only see one on each side...
OBDII required 2 cats per side (to pass emssions) since '96 or '97. all cars, & light trucks. I think certain larger engine sizes were exempt at the time, but emssions req. gets more strict as the yrs go by. paul
i know for a fact that 04 had 4 cats...But Ford changed those specs to 2 cats...When and for which engine did they do it for? I have a 4.6 and thats why i am asking
i dont know the cut off date, but the 04s did have 4 cats, sometime in 05, ford stopped using the rear ones. If you only have 2, then you are better off and should be happy!
My 05 with the 5.4 has 4 cats. There are 2 pre-heaters off the exhaust manifolds, an 1 at the y pipe, and one after the y pipe. My truck has a build date of 6/05.
that is strange, on the 04 there are 2 cats on each side, all before the Y pipe. With the o2 sensors between them, making the removal of the rear ones painless
