Question 2004 Expedition Need Extended Warranty ??

I bought a 2004 Expedition loaded back in October 2004. Truck has been very well maintained. Oil changed evey 3,000 miles rather than 5,000. I drive the truck very easy, no 4-wheeling off road etc.All factory recommended maintenance performed on time.

I have 33,000 mile and the factory warranty expires after 36,000.

Is there a consesnsus as to the need for buying an extended warranty on a 2004 Expy ???????????

I'm not aware of a consensus, I think it just depends on your comfort level and your finances. I bought the PremiumCare plan with $50 deductible for my '01 EB just before it turned 36K, I only used it a couple of times. Once for a bad rear wiper and once for a door lock actuator. I probably will buy the PremiumCare for my '06 EB, but I've got some time before 36K just for the piece of mind.

If you do go with it make sure you shop around. Some dealerships offer it for alot less than the Ford ESP website. I ended up buying one from an out of state ford dealership.

That's a hell of an idea Bridge. I won't own another withOUT Ford ESP but never thought of wheeling and dealing.

On edit: Sheesh one spelling error and a whole different message was conveyed.

There is a good chance you will need a ring gear and pinion in your future. That would cover the price of the warranty there. According to what type of warranty, bumper to bumper or powertrain, you could spend a lot of money on non-powertrain items.

Non-warranty items I need at 45k miles:

Drivers side window regulator (expensive little bugger)
Left front swaybar end link
Rear axle has whine
Tick in left side head at idle
Miss on #5 cyl when cold (new COP, plug and injector installed)
6 CD player wants to keep CD's instead of ejecting them
Play in steering rack, appx. 1/4-3/8"

I wish I had bought an Expy with less than 36k so I could get the warranty. It turned 39k on my way home with it one year ago.

I did on my 03. I plan to keep it to 100K at least. Since I tow with it, it was an easy decision.

My father inlaw had to replace his transfer case and rear diff + limited slip on his F150 so I didn't want to fork out those kind of bucks.

My 04 EB 4x4 now has 56k on it. I do tow a boat and travel trailer. It is currently in the shop getting a new ring/pinion (rear end) and has had the following done to it. I did buy the prem. ESP and I think with the rear end, I have recovered the cost of the ESP.

-both front window regulators
-rear hatch assembly
-pinion seal
-ring/pinion (rear end)
-driver seat motor (twice)
-all the middle leather seats have been replaced for cracking
-alignment
-brake rotors warped
-PRNDL gearshift replaced

Personally, the only reason I bought this was because of the fold-flat rear seats. I was replacing a truck and didn't want to have to go home & remove seats to hauls things... I would definately buy the esp...

I'd tell you but I can't find the paperwork! I thought I grabbed it out of the glove compartment when I traded in my '01. I think it was Carson or Carsten Ford??? I know it started with a "C" and I think maybe they were out of Louisiana. I found them on the internet in '02 but haven't been able to locate them on Google yet. I think I paid ~$1500 or $1700 for the 6yr/100K Premium plan. I think it was ~$800 less than the ford ESP quote at that time.

In addition to my previous post I also had a control arm, ball joint and spindle replaced using the ESP. I forgot about those. Had I paid for these myself I doubt the work would have been forgetable

The '03s are also having a problem with the transfer case cracking around either the fill or drain plug. I an not positive, but I think it is the drain plug.

I haven't seen any drips under the Expy, and with all the other things I have wrong, I'm a little scared to look.

I'll just say...if you decide to purchase the ESP, make sure you do it timely. I got a postcard telling me my warranty was up on 9/1. Well, I found out on 9/1 that it was telling me 9/1 was too late. I had tried to plug in the info the day before at work, but got busy, so I figured I do it the next day. Well the website was not letting me ask for a quote (on 9/1), so I ended up calling the 800#. Well they told me I was too late and there was nothing they could do to at that point. I told them I'm willing to spend the money right now to buy the extension and they refused. This ultimately let to another ongoing battle with Ford. I had the rear end rebuilt in Jan, and the problem is back. They are NOT honoring the 12mo/12k mile warranty due to the fact my OEM bumper to bumper expired. I then escalated up to the owner who responded that if I had a complete motor rebuild at 35mo/35k miles....I would only have 1 mo or 1k miles of warranty on that. I then went to Ford Customer Relations and they are telling me the same thing. So now a few months later I'm having a repeat issue, that makes me leary of paying the big $$$ to fix....since it is apparent that it is a recurring problem. So right now I'm not sure which direction I want to go. Spend $1200 for a fix that "might" be only good for a half year or so???? I really like the vehicle (03 EB), but with that kind of backing....its really tough! Good luck in whatever you decide. Just don't put it off like me!!
