i just today changed my hub as i was getting a squeel and can feel a vibration under my feet. the squeel is now gone and i guess the wheel bearing was fine in the old hub but the needle bearings had a problem. after replacing the hub the truck drives exactly the same except no more squeeling. i'm pretty sure i have a bad axle/ujoint. is it best to have the axle(s) rebuilt ? visually i see nothing bad the drivers side that i replaced the hub on has more play on the shaft than the passenger side. i'm looking for any suggestions on what to look for, rather than my usual way of throwing money then time at the problem and hoping it fixes it....
you can usually check your axle u-joints w/o dissasembly. Reach inside the steering knuckle and wiggle the inner and outter shafts around (in 2wd), see if theres any ovement between them. This should have been checked when you did the hub, there would have been no extra work at that point.
I'm thinking your ujoints are fine, assuming this happens in 2wd. In 2wd, you should also be able to confirm a disconnected hub by spinning the axle ujoint, it should turn freely in 2wd. Anyways, if you have a vibe in 2wd it's not your ujoints or axle shafts. Rotate and balance your tires. Get some more specific details on you prob, someone here will probably know what it is.
EDIT: Just because you feel it in the floorboard doesn't meen it's there, check the rest of your ujoints and carrier bearing as well.
