I just picked up an 02 F-350 V-10 and at idle it seems to skip and some points while driving. Its not consistent but very irritating theres no engine lights or anything, its got about 87,000 on it any ideas?
I was going to start a new thread but not to steal nicks thunder I will add to this one, My 2000 v 10 just started with an intermittent skip. I thought it might be bad gas but it will go away and then come back. I think it might be a coil but cant be sure. Any ideas from anyone. It has a new fuel filter, new plugs, new fuel pump, The skip started after all the work was done. I get no engine codes but it defiantly is skipping. cold it is fine usually after I have gone somewhere, shut it off, then started back up, it skips. I need help.
Thanks.
Nick,
It looks like Fred has clued you in on places to start and Pops is right about the idle burping. Just the nature of the beast. Skipping is another thing, though. Let us know after you've checked off Fred's list.
Wyle,
Did you replace the COP boots when you replaced the plugs? If not, that's the first thing I'd do. Just pull the COPS and replace the boots. A requirement, IMO.
If it's a COP, locating the culprit can be accomplished by:
1 - Get the dealer to hook you up to a WDS (Worldwide Diagnostic System)
2 - Get another COP and replace via process of elimination.
Thanks Big Orn, I didnt replace the cop boots, I ight try that first. I was thinking getting a coil and just moving it around till the skip stops, or unplug em one by one till the skip makes no difference.
My 2002 F350 V10 Auto now has 63,000mi. At 56,000mi I too had an intermittant missfiring or 'skip' mostly at idle and not usually at driving rpms. Took it in to the dealer and they replaced a bad plug boot. Boot was $11.00, labor was $110.00!!!. I'll find and replace it myself next time and pay myself the $110.00!!!
BTW ECM never threw any codes or service engine light.
