What would be involved in swapping in a new 3 valve V-10 into my 2000 X with the old 2 valve? It should drop right in, but what about the computer, engine peripherals, etc. Not that I need it done right away, just planning for the future. The rest of my truck is in great shape and 5 or 6 grand, or even 10, seems more economical than 40k+ for new, comparable vehicle.
it will bolt up but not run, there are way to many wireing changes , pcm's, fly by the wire gas pedal, and lots of other things in your way. very little in the way of after market parts to boost it up still.
if you really want more power out of your 2 valve get yur self a super charger kit from kenne bell or whipple. it will be faster to do and better in the long run.
that would be ok for me also as long as there is a cat diesel under hood not a ih psd.truth is a super charger kit is your best way. sure there are things to play with for a 2valve motor but nothing works as well as the sc kits. and oyeh it would be nice if ford still made the ex but since they don't.??????

300hp Cat C7. How do the 2valves respond to rebuilds? I have 162k on the clock and she's running as well a budy's '03 with less than 75k. I'm not really looking for a power increase, just options down the road incase something happens.
Lots of crate 2v V10 motors in the $3000-$7500 range
If you intend to get max life from the EX start saving for the motor, and a trans rebuild in the 200K milage range and you will get another 200K easily out of the machine
I know of many now 2v V10 that lived well past 225K and one is over 300K and still starting and running fine
Ususaly the first serious wear shows up in the Overhead cam drive gears and chain
Will there be any indications to the wear in the Cam drive gears and chain? Is there any preventative maintenance, or scheduled replacement of these parts?

There is no regular maintenance that I know of on the timing chains.
When they start making noise, replace the chain, gears, guides and tensioners.
However, I haven't heard of anyone with chain noise that wasn't approaching or exceeding 200K miles

I have a similar intrest in doing this to an Excursion. I am not a pro yet with the modular V10's but would it be possible using all the same wiring harnesses, sensors, stock or modified intake to use the old 2V throttle cable and throttle body. Essentially fooling all the engine managment to think it's original engine is still there but it's operating a 3V V10. Then upgrade the throttle body, MAF's, Headers, Reprogramm the computer, etc. Is this possible?
There are about four threads on this subject on the first two pages of this forum.... several of us have listed ALL the issues relating to swapping in a 3v V10 2005 motor into an older chassis.... bottom line is there is no real benefit UNLESS you carry backward ALL the things that make the 3v V10 have more power...fooling it to think it is a 2v V10 will make it behave like a 2v V10 with 310 HP...so what would be the point of all the aggravation!
