this was a good post, helped me figure out how to get the heater core out and get the right core (stupid parts stores). now my only problem is getting that whole assembly back IN!
Fordilicous,
I just finished mine. Thanks to mil1on, I pulled the bolt at the right side of the dash, where it bolts the dash to the side of the cab. I also pulled the bolt just under the cigarette lighter. Probably didn't need to pull that one but it did give more flex. Piece of cake. If you need help, post up. I'll check back periodically to see how you're doing, now that the task is fresh in my mind.
Oh and thanks all of you guys!!! The local auto parts store didn't have the haynes manual for my truck. With all of your help, I didn't need to order another one. Now maybe I'll have enough time to locate the last one that I lost. Man, that saves me 20 bucks. Worth every penny of my FTE Supporter dues.

The bolt is where the bottom right side of the dash meets at just about the door jamb. Put your fingures up in there and feel around. This would be the bottom of the dash, at the corner toward the passenger door. Between the door jamb and the passenger side vent, up and under.
Also, I initially tried to do this without taking out the glove box liner. It makes all the difference in the world if you take it out. Much easier. Just be carefull. It's cardboard and easy to break. Another thing I tried was to lower the heater box without disconnecting the fan wires in the engine compartment. Another mistake. Disconnect them.
Hope that helps.
