Ford Freestyle

Looks like I'll be getting a new vehicle. Any pros/cons on the 2007 Freestyle? FWD verses AWD? Any common repairs that are impossible to preform on this vehicle? IE Brakes, tuneup, fluid changes, suspension parts replacement. Helped a lady with a dead battery in a cross over, and offered to take her to Walmart for a new battery. Found out that wouldn't work as it has to be replaced at the Stealership and reprograhmed.

Reprogramming after a dead battery is bunk. The computer does it itself.

As for a Freestyle, we rented one. Drives fine, adequate power. 3rd row access ok, but the slide/dump on the 2nd row could have been easier.

Road noise. Tinny sounding doors.

An OK rig.

We leased our 05 Freestyle AWD in May last year. Our observations to date:
  • It's sluggish, just adequate power. When you floor it, then it pulls OK
  • It's heavy, partly due to the AWD system.
  • Poor fuel mileage, best open highway mileage - 18.5, around town it averages 13 to 14. Same as my 8,500 lb Super Duty!
  • Cloth seats stain very easily and are difficult to clean.
  • Smallest front console I have ever seen in a car.
  • Only small kids can easily access the 3rd row seats, and that's because they like climbing over things.
  • The CVT trans took some getting used to, it feels to me like the trans is slipping all the time. It's working properly, I've just not gotten used to that feeling.
  • Handles well and fells very stable, especially in the rain.
Since it's leased and they take care of maintenance I don't have feedback on any of that. Bottom line: We wouldn't purchase another Freestyle.
