leaking valve stems?

I have a couple of tires leaking on my jeep cherokee. there is still quite a bit of tread left,so I really don't want to buy new tires. they are leakiing from where the valave stem meets the rim. is there any way I can fix these leaks without having to take the tires somewhere to be taken off the rims? thanks,Ben

You can replace them by letting the air out and breaking the bead on that one side.

Reach in and shove the valve thru the hole ....screw on the valve stem installer and pull.

Valve stem installers can be bought for a few bucks.

JMO, but it ain't worth doing this yourself. Take 'em to a local place and have them replace the valve stems. Shouldn't cost more than $10-15 a tire.

You can do it yourself, but, breaking the bead and then trying to air the tire back up can be a hassle most people would not want to deal with on their own.

Getting them to air back up is not problem at all with a tire that has been in use and when you only break down one side.

as osbornk said--also--if the stem is leaking air where you say--ive taken a large pliers--and a bottle of windex--where the stem comes thru the rim--grab there with pliers--firmly--but dont crush--spray some windex on the stem and twist it--may have to pull out on it a little--spray some more--and twist again--have stopped all but one from leaking this way--and that one was ready to break anyway---sure beats tearing the rim and tire apart-or breaking one bead loose-----
