idle problems
i have a 2000 f-150.the idle would drop and then surge intermitently.i replaced the maf sensor,serpentine belt and tensioner.the problem still existed and then i replaced the alternator and the problem stopped.my mechanic could not find anything with the code scanner and he was scratching his head, so he put in the alternator which fixed the problem but still no reason why.now the truck has started to do the same thing after $800 worth of work.the problem starts off very subtle and the gets proggressivley worse over time.Can any one help me with this problem?ive been told to change the battery because it resets the computer.thanks joe n jersey

The idle control solinoid might be sticking. You can clean it, but i WOULD RECOMEND replacement. A bad or should i say intermitent stick problem does not always set a code. I think when you replaced the alternator, the computer had to do what is called a relearn process. It most likely tried to account for this solinoid during this time, thus we have a temp fix setting for this solinoid. If you replace the idel control solinoid, Remember to do a clear any codes, or disconect the battery to do a relearn for the new part. Hope this helps. Good luck, let us know what you find.
