I've been looking for a white grille shell to replace the stock chrome XL grille on my 97 F150 4x4.
I asked the dealer about one and he said I would have to shell out 300 bucks because he said they were so hard to find. I doubt it as I see alot of white 97-98 F150s around my area and on the highways.
Where can I find one at a lot cheaper price than the dealer's?
I would have to say keep your eyes on a junkyard, and enxt time you pass through hope they have one. Ebay , I agree, is a deadly cource for grills. Have you checked out the classifieds on here too? Theres a ton of cool stuff on there too.
I took a look at the pics that you posted. If I bought one of those at the prices they're asking and have a professional paint it Oxford white, it would cost about the same as at the dealer. I paid 250 for a Lund moonvisor and the painter wanted 150 to paint it Oxford white to match my truck!
It doesn't hurt to ask the junkyards if they can part out trucks. I'll try them and let you know what they say. Who knows???
I don't mean to offend you ncranchero, but I'm just trying to be realistic here. I'm on a limited budget right now. Thanks for the tips though.
No offense to me BlueOval. My wallet has thinned considerably since I retired! I've been fixing wrecks for myself for 30 years. I guess I'm just not used to the prices some body shops charge the general public for minor paint work like you mention. I do a fair amount of business with several local wrecking yards and they won't break up a good front end. I have a 91 and a 96 F150 complete front end for sale and I wouldnt break it up. Now that 1st grille I posted is a deal, so far, in anyones book @ $31 shipped. It probably won't stay that cheap but it's worth watching. I'll be updating my front end as soon as I gather a few more parts. Good luck with your search, hope you find it! Wish I could be more help.
The real reason I wanted a white grille shell is because I wanted to put a Speed grille from Street Scene inside it and I didn't want to butcher up my good original one to do that.
Ncranchero, the first grille you posted, would the inside grille have to be cut out to put the grille mentioned above inside?
