I just recently discovered I have a dead short in my "power point" circut. It blows up anything u stick in there... First of all... What IS my "power point" and second, is there any typical reasons for this or should I just trace the wires and find the short.
I'm not sure what your talking about... The cigarette lighter is another circut with a 75amp fuse. This is a 30amp circut with no other explanation in my haynes manual then "Power Point".
Got one on my '94 labeled POWER POINT lower middle dash behind floor shifter.
Obviously intended as a 12 volt power supply for anything you might want to plug into it. As previously stated a cigarette lighter (female portion) without the lighter.
Shorted ? Probably at the receptical, good place to start looking.

From what you have described, I believe that you are refering to the flap to the left of the ash tray. That is, as previously stated, an additional female recepticle for any 12 vdc accessory. If there is a short I would also start by looking at the terminal first.
I do not believe 87 to 91 trucks came with power point as the 92 and later trucks refer to, as it was a 92 and later open cigeratte lighter port. Are you sure you are looking at the right wiring diagram. The haynes manual for those trucks has wiring diagrams for the various years, and variation with in model years. If you do not seem to know where the short is exactly, you may end up doing a wire trace by disassembling the whole truck as you go to find the short. It will not be fun work nor will it simply be a weekend project. Then again it may be just simple and easy to fix, one can never tell about finding shorts.
I found it last night. My heater wasn't working (big problem because its already winter here), so I checked the fuses as I always do. I decided to pull each one of them out and look at them to make sure any haven't gone. The one fuse that was gone I had no clue what it did so I decided to check the haynes manual to see what it was for. It gave me the description of "Power Point". It has a dead short for sure, but if its as useless as you guys say it is, ill just leave it as it is.
