You may as well put on headers. Or you could put on some aftermarket manifolds--they tend to be thicker iron than the OEM, plus most of the bolt holes are oversize and allow for a little more disparity in thermal movement between the block and the manifold.
I've cracked 3/4 of the Ford exhaust manifolds I've owned. None of the replacements have ever cracked, but 2 of them I didn't have for long, and the third doesn't have too many miles on it yet (15k or so).
I've got two sets of broken manifolds in my yard right now so I bought a set of PaceSetter Shorty Headers to put on and they are supposed to bolt up to my exhaust then after the cat I go to a FlowmasterMuffler and custom dual exhaust pipes. I'll get it all together some day. Pappafisher
if its your right side check the motor/tranny mounts to make sure the manifold is not hitting the frame rail. But I have seen alot crack along the "collector" area for no apparent reason.
on both my '88, and '92 F-150 trucks, both with 5.0 engines, the manifolds are cracked.
They're prone to do this as they are rather thin, and sometimes water can get on them bewteen the frame and the inner fender, and warp em.
As stated before, my pass. side manifold are cracked vertically between the forward 2 cylinders on both trucks. I even went as far as to pull a set from a salvage yard truck, and the passenger side from it was cracked as well.
Go with a good set of headers, and fuhgeddaboutit!
