Stupid "?" ------?????? Ok I plan to install the engine tomorrow and wanted to clarify something. Per the book STV chrts How to RBBBF .. remove and drain the torque converter face down over a pan. remove the seal(carefuly) yada yada.. replace with new yada, install the torque converter making sure it seats correctly."the studs on the cnvtr should be apprx 1" behind bellhousing plane" checked with a straight edge...
Does the converter need to be refilled, as it was drained. ---or does the tranny take care of this? Should you add the extent of drained tranny fluid to the tranny prior to engine startup, drive train use.. ?? Just a little puzzling to me.. sorry if it's a "JKAZZ ?"...

Is there any wear on the converter neck and the fit in the bushing?
Far as converter add at least a quart to it before installing so it doesn't run dry inside for lubrication. Wet the seal lips and converter neck before installing and be sure it's seated all the way.
The pump body seal to case is a known leak area, might be a good time to change it as well converter bushing.
If your fussy mount the converter to flexplate and dial indicate the neck so it runs true which will increase converter bushing life. Mark converter to reinstall in same position on the flexplate.

havent slid the converter out yet. wanted to leave it in place until it was time to install the motor. today we'll pull it out and see what things look like. i do see lots of shavings in the bellhousing that would seem to be from the starter/plate teeth marriage. thanks for the heads up on the fluid addition note. was my main concern. as for installing we'll just do it the old fashion way. hasnt been wrong yet. this is my first automatic anything though, which is funny because i always go for the clutch when a quick response to driving conditions is needed.
I bet you have the FMX box unless you went to a later C-6, that iron case is box is heavy. I ended up purchasing a Sunex 7750B 1,200 lb tranny jack as I have a 5 speed Rover with transfer case, what a heavy awkward item. The best tool purchase so far for installing, my body thanks me.
