Cool Dp- Tuner Blues!

I finally decided to get a DP-Tuner chip(8 pos) and I installed it today. I'm upset and wanted to hear how everyone else's chip performs. Mine is great in the 140 or smoke setting. However the 60, 80, 100, and 120 settings have no throttle response whatsoever. Maybe it's just the way the chips are programmed. In the 120 setting my truck accelerated like it was bone stock . It lugged so bad I thought I was going to get ran over. When the rpm's get to about 2300 or so it finally kicks in a litte. No chance of a burnout with the way this thing is. The 140 like I said is awesome. I turned my 35's untill I let up. I can deal with the other settings not having as much power. That's why I got them, but my Banks chip will stomp every setting on it in the ground besides the 140 or smoke. What's the deal? Did I get a bad chip or is this the way these things are?

either it is installed incorrectly or you have a faulty chip. did you make sure all of the laquer is off of the contact plates in the PCM plate that the chip piggybacks on? is it all the way on the connections, and fashioned in the correct manner?

if all of that is good, then call up Jody and tell him what's up.

Call Jody. That does not sound normal to me. What is the 18k in your sig? Is that interfering?

Definately call Jody. That does not at all sound right. Pull your 18K mod too. Jody's chip plays with the ICP anyway, so the 18K mod may be interfering like FD said.

I already took the 18k out before installing the DP. I'm thinking of putting it back in to see if that will kick the fuel back up a little.

My PCM contacts are clean because that's where my Banks chip was before. I took it apart and cleaned everything anyways. I got my chip from Dennis at ITP but, I went ahead and called Jody. I left a message so hopefully he'll get back with me soon. I'm actually glad to hear that everyone else thinks somethings up. I was thinking that maybe I should've stuck with my Banks and 18K. Hopefully it's an easy fix. I hate to think I've wasted 600 dollars.

Okay I just got back from taking a 50 mile test run. The chip seemed okay at first but, then started again. I noticed that when it was lugging around I could cut the wheel side to side and it would open up like it should be. Then when I pulled back into my drive I put it back into stock and the SES light came on. Any other setting besides high idle and the SES light goes off. So I'm thinking that maybe the truck is going into limp mode or something. I'm confused and it's looking like this ins't the chip after all. If anyone has any tips I would really apprieciate them. Also I noticed in the instllation instructions it said too much copper showing on the PCM contacts was bad. Mine are all the way down to copper. Looks like that wouldn't matter.

Take the chip out and drive it around to see if you still get the SES light or if it continues to run funny.

More than likely you may have picked up a defective chip.

Thanks Pocket, I went out to run the truck again and no SES light. Went down the road and same thing. No SES light but, more power in stock than in the other settings. I noticed that when it is lugging I can change settings and it sometimes comes out of it and runs fine. It doesn't make sense why the 140 and smoke tunes work good. Anyway I unhooked everything and the trucks running okay.

Lance_I,

Not really sure at this point what it could be that is causing this. Since you are getting a SES light we need to know what it is for. You can go by any auto supply center and have them read the codes if you don't have a code reader.

The first place to start is to contact Dennis at ITP. We need to know what code you are programmed to and what mods you have done to your truck to better access the issue you are having. Give Dennis all the data you have gathered and we will work together to find out what is going on.

Thanks for the help Jody. I sent Dennis an email earlier. I also took the chip out and put it back in again. My battery cables were a little dirty so I cleaned them and tightened them down a little better. Now it's seems fine. Would a loose cable have caused the chip the not fully work somehow?
